Curiosity in Action: Clark-Shaw Magnet’s Science Fair Journey
At Clark-Shaw Magnet School, science is more than a subject—it’s a year-long journey of curiosity, problem-solving, and discovery.
The Clark-Shaw Science Fair process begins early, launching in August and continuing through January, giving students months to explore scientific questions that genuinely interest them. From the very start, students are encouraged to think critically, ask meaningful questions, and design investigations that reflect real-world problem solving.
Throughout the fall semester, students work through each stage of the scientific process: selecting a topic, conducting research, forming hypotheses, testing ideas, analyzing data, and refining conclusions. Teachers guide students along the way, helping them develop research skills, strengthen organization, and learn how to clearly communicate their findings. By the time projects are submitted in January, students have not only created thoughtful experiments but have also built confidence as young scientists.
The culmination of this work is the school science fair, where students proudly present their projects to peers, teachers, and judges. This event celebrates creativity, perseverance, and academic growth, highlighting the wide range of interests and talents across grade levels.
Select students are then invited to represent Clark-Shaw at the regional science fair, an exciting opportunity to showcase their work beyond the school campus. Participation at the regional level allows students to engage with a broader scientific community, receive expert feedback, and experience the rewards of dedication and innovation.
Clark-Shaw’s Science Fair reflects the school’s commitment to hands-on learning and academic excellence. By giving students time, support, and encouragement to explore science deeply, the program fosters curiosity that extends far beyond the classroom—preparing students to think critically, creatively, and confidently about the world around them.
